How to import RAW/SR codec footage into Final Cut Pro X
Q: My company got a Sony F65, we took a lot of video with Sony F65. My task is edit F65 recordings on Mac with FCP X, but we can’t import Sony F65 4K RAW or SR codec footage into FCP X, what should I to do?
Q: I have some RAW and SR files that I need to import into Final Cut Pro 7. I do not have the camera they were shot on just the files. Is this possible or do I need separate software to demux them? I am working on a Mac with Mountain Lion.
A: Raw files are named so because they are not yet processed and therefore are not ready to be printed or edited with a bitmap graphics editor. For editing RAW and SR in FCP X, FCP 7 and FCP 6, you have to convert RAW and SR codec files to FCP compatible video codec, such as convert RAW/SR to Apple ProRes 422 or convert RAW/SR to Apple ProRes 4444.
Are you trying to edit RAW and SR files in FCP X? I’m afraid that it’s impossible that RAW and SR footage can be accepted by Final Cut Pro. The best way to import RAW and SR into FCP X/FCP 7/FCP 6, you be going to transcode RAW/SR to FCP for special editing. It’s natural that you need a RAW/SR to FCP Converter. You can free download FCP Video Converter trial version.

Step 1: Run RAW/SR to FCP Converter. Click add video icon to import RAW and SR codec video into this software.
Step 2: ProRes 422 MOV is highly recommended if you want to edit in FCP X. As FCP’s native format, loading ProRes to FCP X requires no rendering. Click “Format”, you can get “Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)” under “Final Cut Pro” easily. Click it then you succeed in choosing it.
Step 3: Click convert button to start RAW and SR to FCP Apple ProRes codec conversion.
After conversion, you can click “Open” button to get the converted video files. Now, you can import RAW and SR codec video into Final Cut Pro (FCP X, FCP 7, FCP 6) for editing freely.
